About beCopenhagen

What we do

beCopenhagen offer eye-opening, informed and engaging explorations in Copenhagen with a focus on urbanism and architecture.

With professional backgrounds in the building and planning industry, we invite you behind the facades of one of the most innovative cities in the world.

Copenhagen is widely recognised as an urban laboratory within fields such as:

  • liveability,
  • urban life,
  • building design,
  • cycling culture,
  • social urban development,
  • sustainability,
  • and more.

These subjects have caught international media attention, but haven’t made it to the typical tourist tours. They go largely unnoticed by first-time visitors, and we’d like to change that!

Add-ons

We like to add something extra on our tours, such as:

  • Café stop with hot or cold drinks
  • Lunch or dinner
  • Picnic in the open
  • Tastings of whisky or Danish beer or…
  • Competitive features, such as:
    • A quiz
    • A treasure hunt

Options are almost endless, so feel free to suggest what is most fun and interesting for your group.

Mode of transportation:

Our primary transportation on the tours are bikes.

In Copenhagen, the bike lanes are one of the highlights, in general, and within our urban focus. So it’s always our strong recommendation to use bike lanes for transportation.

As a special (and fun) design feature, we often use STRiDA folding bikes.

For specific purposes of a duration of more days or very large groups, we would consider other transportation such as:

  • Walking
  • Public transportation
    • Metro
    • Water bus
    • S-trains
    • Buses
  • Rickshaws
  • Small self-controlled boats
  • Canal boats
  • Private bus or limousine

Who we are

beCopenhagen is a small company driven by our personal passion for our home town, its architecture and urban qualities, its liveability – and its bikes!

Our ambition is to communicate our architectural knowledge and views in a personal, straightforward and clear language. We are curious by nature, we like the discussion and don’t shy away from nuanced viewpoints.

We carefully curate the most interesting, important and up-to-date places and subjects. Our tours most often go far beyond the touristy city centre, and we know every corner of our city.

As true Copenhageners, we fancy bikes and cycling. So when we include you in city life, there’s only one way – the local way. And that’s the bike-way!

beCopenhagen faces:

Alice Lempel Søndergaard

Alice has worked in various positions in urban planning and strategy and is commenting on and reviewing new architecture.

She has a degree in philosophy and modern culture and she has a profound interest in how our built environment and city planning are influencing everyday life in the city.

Asser Munch

Asser is an architect by trade who turned to the dark side by taking a degree and now working as a construction engineer.

As an architect, he taught at the Aarhus School of Architecture and worked on various smaller building projects.

As an engineer, his line of work is structural engineering and he has a special affinity for timber structures.

You can read more on his blog: copenhagenarchitecture.dk.

Occasionally, on busy days, we make use of freelance architect guides, who are also professionals from the building and planning industry.

Søren Herlev

Søren is a businessman and an entrepreneur and founded beCopenhagen with Asser.

He’s a family guy, and chairman of a big taekwondo club and owner and reinventor of Åbenbar, a classic Danish pub in Nordvest, his favourite area of Copenhagen.

Additionally, he often increases the average age at diverse electronic music club events.
